RUSSELL MARK has missed the chance to avenge his Sydney Olympic defeat but claimeda clay shooting silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

MARK'S motivation for coming out of semi-retirement for the Games was to reverse theresult in the double trap in Sydney 2000, where he finished second to England's RICHARDFAULDS.

But the much-anticipated shoot-out with the Englishman never eventuated, with FAULDSfinishing in fifth place on 185.

MARK finished on 190 shots - more than he needed to win gold in Atlanta in 1996 butone shot behind Indian shooter RAJYAVARDHAN SINGH, while Maltese teenager WILLIAM CHETCUTIwon the bronze with 189.

MARK says he's disappointed because he didn't go to the Games to win a silver medal.

MICHAEL DIAMOND didn't make the final, finishing seventh.

Australians LALITA YAUHLEUSKAYA and ANNEMARIE FORDER qualified first and second forthe women's 10m air pistol singles, to be held later today.
